Nannette Ripmeester is Director at Expertise in Labour Mobility (ELM) and founder of the app CareerProfessor.works. She serves as Regional Director – Surveys leading the International Student Barometer (ISB) for Etio in Europe and North America. Nannette is driven by the motto "making mobility work," working with the higher education, corporate, and government sectors on skills development and employability to make graduates internationally employable, building on 30 years of experience after her passion for international mobility was ignited while working for 7 years at the European Commission, streamlining labour mobility within Europe for EURES. Nannette is involved in the NAFSA Trainer Corps and she was appointed Industry Innovator in Residence for Study Queensland where she wrote the Cookbook on Employability.

What drives study decisions for international students?

What if you are after an international career but are unsure where to start? What would motivate you to choose a certain study destination? The answer for this current generation of students (and their parents!) seems rather straightforward: Employability. Not (just) in the sense of a job upon graduation, but in feeling welcome as a foreigner in the job market of that country concerned and feeling able to manoeuvre in that job market.
